In June 2026, our Innovations and Partnerships Manager, Caren Okombo and Programmes Manager (East Africa), Betty Achieng, joined hundreds of policymakers, researchers, donors, implementers and young people at the 9th RHNK Pan-African Adolescent & Youth SRHR Scientific Conference in Mombasa.

The conference provided a powerful platform for learning, collaboration and reflection on the future of adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across Africa. One message stood out throughout the discussions: young people's health, rights and meaningful participation must remain at the centre of policies and programmes that shape their future.
Representing PFP, Caren and Betty shared insights from our Health4Health initiative and ongoing work with adolescents, youth and teen mothers. Their presentations highlighted the importance of investing in frontline health management into SRHR services and strengthening community- based systems to better respond to the challenges young people face.
A key highlight was presenting PFP's partnership with the County Government of Homa Bay and showcasing innovative, cost-effective approaches that support stronger and more resilient health systems. The discussions reinforced that empowering frontline providers is critical to improving health outcomes for adolescents and young people.

The conference also created valuable opportunities to engage with organisations advancing youth- focused solutions across the continent. Conversations around menstrual health management, particularly the acceptability of reusable sanitary pads, sparked meaningful dialogue and reaffirmed the importance of practical, youth- friendly approaches.
Beyond the sessions, the conference offered opportunities to strengthen partnerships, exchange ideas and build new connections that will support future collaboration and impact.
As PFP continues to champion adolescent and youth wellbeing, the conference served as a reminder that community- driven solutions, strong partnerships and meaningful youth engagement remain essential for creating healthier and more equitable communities.
