About
Our history
Power for the People (PFP) was founded in 2015 with a clear vision: to kickstart sustainable development and power self-sufficiency in communities facing immense challenges.
From the outset, PFP focused on small, ambitious pilots - working closely with communities to test, learn, and refine our approach. Whether trialling clean energy in remote villages or developing grassroots education tools, each project shaped a model rooted in local ownership and long-term impact.
Our governing document allows us to work anywhere in the world, but our current focus is in East Africa, specifically within Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
We deliver sustainable development projects that enable access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity for the world's most vulnerable people.

Our vision, mission & strategy
Today, our vision is healthy, educated, skilled people building prosperous, sustainable communities.
Our commitment is to replicate successful holistic development models, consistently powering self-sufficiency in more communities every year.
As we grow, we’re strengthening local leadership, investing in long-term partnerships, and amplifying community-led solutions that create lasting change.
Our approach
‘Empowering communities, transforming lives - one handshake at a time’.
Our four operating principles underpin how our programmes are designed, implemented and monitored:
