How Solar Energy Powers Every Part of the Arise Centre

Since 2022, the Arise Centre has been fully powered by solar energy, following the installation of a mini-grid system with battery storage. This transition has made a significant difference to daily operations, providing a stable and reliable source of electricity that supports everything the Centre does.

As a result, all activities on site now run on solar power. This includes classrooms, workshops, lighting, equipment, production work, water systems, and even the Water ATM. With this setup in place, the Centre is able to operate smoothly and consistently, using clean energy without disruption.

Since the system was installed, there have been no power outages, and routine annual maintenance has ensured everything continues to run efficiently. By moving away from the national grid, the Centre has also been able to reduce operating costs while securing a more dependable energy supply. In turn, this has strengthened key social enterprise activities, including the water business and pad production.

Beyond the operational benefits, the impact has been just as important environmentally. The system has significantly reduced the Centre’s carbon footprint, while also offering trainees a practical, real-world example of renewable energy in action.

Looking ahead, the Centre plans to introduce basic solar technician training in Cohort 7. This will help develop local technical skills for ongoing maintenance, while also contributing to the wider growth and adoption of solar solutions across the island.
