Growing Sustainable Futures: The Greening Initiative at the Arise Centre

At the Arise Centre in Mbita, we are developing an aeroponics-based agricultural programme designed to respond to the growing challenges of food production in Rusinga, where arid conditions and degraded soils continue to make conventional farming difficult.
Aeroponics is a soil-free farming method that uses a nutrient-rich mist instead of soil. It uses significantly less water and produces more food in a smaller growing space. For the Arise Centre, this offers a practical way to improve local food production while also building skills, livelihoods, and climate resilience in the community.
Through the Greening Initiative, the Centre will produce fresh vegetables year-round for local households and markets while providing practical training in climate-smart agriculture for youth and women. Alongside food production, the programme will support the development of green skills, basic agribusiness knowledge, and sustainable income streams that can contribute to the long-term growth of the initiative.
Thanks to everyone who supported our Going Green campaign and helped us reach our fundraising target. We can now begin progressing these project plans towards sustainable farming development in Mbita.
