Building Skills, Building Futures
Calvince Omondi Frank, a 29-year-old Kenyan citizen, joined the PFP Arise Centre to train in Water Engineering (Pipe Fitter Level 3) with the goal of gaining practical skills and building a more secure future.
Before joining the programme, Calvince worked as a boda boda operator in Mbita and Rusinga, earning less than KES 10,000 per month. Seeking more stable opportunities, he enrolled at the Arise Centre to develop skills in pipe installation, maintenance of water supply and drainage systems, and plumbing services.
Through six months of training and a three-month attachment across Suba North, Calvince strengthened both his technical abilities and his professional approach to work. He now focuses on understanding client needs and providing complete solutions, applying the knowledge gained during training in real work settings.
The training has brought positive changes to his life. Calvince now carries out water installation and repair work professionally, supports his younger brother's education, and contributes to improving access to clean water and sanitation within his community. Looking ahead, he hopes to establish his own water engineering business, and create employment opportunities for other young people, and continue his expertise in the field.
Calvince's journey highlights the importance of practical skills training in creating sustainable livelihoods, reflecting PFP's focus on equipping young people with skills that support long-term opportunity.
